John Holmes, Age 26
Private, 15757, 7th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.
John was the Son of Ezra and Mary Holmes, of 22, Wilmot Road, Old Park; and the husband of Maud A. Holmes, of 56, Old Park.
John enlisted in Wellington in about November 1914, he landed in France on the 24th September 1915 and was posted to the 8th KSLI (“A” Coy) before being posted to the 7th KSLI at a later date. It was with the 7th KSLI that he was killed in action on the 26th September 1917 and is remembered on the Tyne Cot memorial to the Missing, Panels 112-113.
A report had appeared in the Wellington and Shrewsbury Journal on February 16th 1918 stating that he had been formerly reported as missing but was now confirmed as killed in action.
